Finding Sagrado is my tiny contribution to the sabotage of bigotry. In a small way I hope to deprive our society of some of the bigotry it needs to be itself. Plot of my novel: In 1971, Shane Russell, a Michigan teenager, runs away to find Sagrado, the fictional town in Red Sky at Morning, the famous New Mexico novel by Richard Bradford (1968, also a great movie 1971). Shane’s goal is to re-create the nude scenes in Bradford’s novel and build the mini Mount Rushmore of life-sized stone heads that Bradford describes. After the death of his father in Vietnam and with prospects of living with his stepmom and her boyfriend, rich-boy Shane steals $3200 and sets out on a 2000 mile bus trip from Michigan.Winds up in New Mexico. $3.99 Kendal
