Two Florida men attacked in possible hate crime

Two Florida men were attacked and called gay slurs by five men while passersby did nothing to stop the beating, according to a Collier County sheriff’s incident report. Manuel Galan and Cirildo Soliz, who are openly gay, said they were punched and kicked in the stomach, ribs and face while people walked past on the street and made no attempt to stop the beating. Police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.

“It was right in the middle of the street. People were walking all around us. No one stopped. No one did anything,” Galan told NaplesNews.com.

Soliz told NaplesNews.com that after the beating ceased, one of the attackers pointed his finger at him and said, “I’m going to kill you and I know where you live.”

Galan and Soliz know some of their attackers and are pressing charges.
