Project Rainbow to host public event safety training to protect LGBTQ+ gatherings
In an effort to strengthen the security and success of LGBTQ+ community events, Project Rainbow is hosting a Public Event Safety Training on Wednesday, February 19 at Indie Square in Murray. This day-long session, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., aims to equip community members and event organizers with the tools necessary to ensure safe and inclusive gatherings.
With rising concerns over safety at public events, this training provides critical knowledge for those organizing rallies, protests, and celebrations. The workshop will be led by the Department of Justice’s Community Relations Service in collaboration with Project Rainbow’s Executive Director, Jacey Thornton. Attendees will gain insights into contingency planning, risk assessment, and effective collaboration to create safer spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.

“In today’s climate, ensuring the safety of our community events is more important than ever,” said Thornton. “This training will empower organizers with proactive strategies to protect the spaces that uplift and celebrate LGBTQ+ voices.”
Participants will learn how to:
- Develop a comprehensive event safety plan
- Identify and address potential threats
- Build connections with fellow organizers to expand resources and support
The event is open to community leaders, activists, and anyone invested in fostering safe and inclusive spaces. Lunch will be provided for attendees.
RSVP is encouraged at bit.ly/PRUCRS.
