Fafa Fest returns to Gateway, centering on Queer and Trans Pasifika Voices
Salt Lake City’s Gateway Plaza will once again host Fafa Fest, an Indigenous Pride Festival organized by the Nuanua Collective, on Friday, June 21, from 2 to 10 p.m. Now in its second year, the event is part celebration, part community space centered around Queer and Trans Pacific Islander experiences, while welcoming all who wish to attend.
Organizers describe the festival as alcohol-free and family-friendly, with a strong emphasis on Black and Brown Indigenous leadership and the visibility of QTBIPOC (Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous, and People of Color). Attendees can expect a mix of live performances, vendors, food, and interactive programming throughout the day.
The event reflects a growing effort within Utah’s LGBTQ+ landscape to highlight intersections of identity, including race, gender, culture, and queerness, often underrepresented in mainstream Pride celebrations.
More details, including performer lineups and featured vendors, are expected to be released in the days leading up to the festival. Information is available at www.nuanua.org.
