Sutton Foster, Kelli O’Hara, and Aaron Tveit in concert
Three Tony-winning Broadway icons will perform at Utah outdoor amphitheaters.
PARK CITY Inspired by the CBS special “Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall,” Sutton Foster and Kelli O’Hara pay homage to icons Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett.
“Back in 1962,” Sutton told Town and Country, “Julie and Carol did a concert at Carnegie Hall, and it was this incredible evening. Maybe five years ago, Kelli reached out with the idea of not exactly recreating the evening but being inspired by that duo.”
Kelli adds, “It wasn’t even an idea, it was a must. Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett have affected millions of us. And when I thought about it, I was like, well, I think it should be done, and it should be done by Sutton and me.”
Sutton has been nominated for the Tony Award seven times, winning for “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “Anything Goes.” An eight-time Tony nominee, Kelli won for her role in “The King and I.”
► July 26, Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, with Utah Symphony
OREM “Tveitertots” are thrilled about his upcoming performance.
“I’m in this tiny percentage of people that jumps out of bed in the morning to go to work because I absolutely love what I get to do for a living,” Aaron Tveit enthused to New York Theater Guide. “I always remind myself of that — especially in this crazy fucking world that we’re living in right now.”
“I always try to do songs that I can connect with for whatever reason. I don’t ever want to sing songs just for the sake of singing,” he said of the personal nature of the show. Songs that he normally performs in character are instead contextualized within Aaron’s life. A few songs “waiting in the wings” may get swapped in periodically for the show’s encore “depending on the day and how we’re feeling.”
Aaron won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in “Moulin Rouge!”
► Aug. 25, Scera Shell, with Utah Valley Symphony
