Intermezzo Chamber Music presents Sunday evening concerts in Grand America’s Courtyard Gardens

Salt Lake City’s celebrated Intermezzo Chamber Music Series will bring world-class music to one of the city’s most elegant outdoor settings this September, with Sunday evening performances in the Courtyard Gardens of the Grand America Hotel. Beginning at 7 p.m. each Sunday, audiences can enjoy carefully curated programs performed by leading artists, paired with an inviting atmosphere where twilight, music, and fine libations come together.

The series opens on September 7 with a program that balances passion and lyricism. Violinist William Hagen, cellist Matthew Johnson, and pianist Vedrana Subotic perform a trio of works: Tchaikovsky’s beloved Lensky’s Aria from Eugene Onegin (arranged for violin), and Schubert’s expansive Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat Major. The evening promises an immersion into the lush Romantic tradition, with music that soars from intimate melodies to sweeping grandeur.

On September 14, pianist Sergio Kvitko takes center stage with Transcriptions, a program that stretches from Bach to Radiohead, highlighting the versatility of the piano and the imaginative ways composers and performers bridge genres. Audiences can expect a night of surprising connections between the Baroque and the contemporary.

The following week, on September 21, tenor Brian Stucki joins pianist Vedrana Subotic for Some Enchanted Evening. The recital features Schubert’s song cycle Die schöne Müllerin, one of the composer’s most poignant and enduring works, chronicling love, longing, and heartbreak through a series of poetic songs.

The series concludes on Saturday, September 27, with Looking at Tomorrow, performed by the Waterford Chamber Orchestra and Soloists, under the direction of Kathy Morris. This finale reflects Intermezzo’s commitment to bold programming, with music that gazes toward the future while honoring the classical tradition.

Now in its ongoing mission to create an intimate and innovative chamber music experience in Salt Lake City, the Intermezzo Chamber Music Series continues to blend the familiar with the unexpected, often spotlighting living composers and surprising juxtapositions. Whether you are a seasoned concertgoer or a newcomer curious about chamber music, Intermezzo invites all to gather in the gardens for artistry under the open sky.
