‘A Dozen Roses,’ a timeless queer love story from Wasatch Theatre Co.

This February, Salt Lake City audiences will be transported across centuries, identities, and emotional landscapes in A Dozen Roses, an intimate new play by Utah-based playwright Selah DeGering. Wasatch Theatre Company presents the production at the Regent Street Black Box, running February 12–14 at 7:30 pm, with a special matinee on February 15 at 2 pm.

A Dozen Roses isn’t your typical love story. It follows Eric, an immortal vampire, as he searches for his deceased wife, Rose. Because Rose is reincarnated across different eras, her soul appears in various bodies, allowing the play to explore love that transcends physical form and traditional gender binaries. From early colonial New England to the AIDS crisis and into today, this two-actor play challenges what it means to love and remember, especially when only one partner bears the weight of history.

DeGering, a Louisiana-born playwright now rooted in Utah, brings a personal voice to the Salt Lake theatre scene. An honors graduate in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in playwriting from Brigham Young University, they are also an active member of the Dramatists Guild and a champion for queer and minority narratives in theater.

Audiences should note that A Dozen Roses is recommended for mature viewers due to its adult themes. Tickets and more information are available through Wasatch Theatre Company at wasatchtheatrecompany.org
